NexGard Soft Chewable Tablets Main Uses
- Flea Treatment and Prevention: Kills adult fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) and is used for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations.
- Tick Treatment and Control: Effectively treats and controls multiple tick species common in Canada, including the Black-legged (Deer) Tick (Ixodes scapularis), American Dog Tick (Dermacentor variabilis), and Brown Dog Tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus).
- Lyme Disease Prevention: Indicated for the prevention of Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme disease) by killing the black-legged tick vector.
NexGard Soft Chewable Tablets Active Ingredients
- Afoxolaner: A member of the isoxazoline class of parasiticides.
- Mechanism of Action: It is absorbed into the dog's bloodstream. When a flea or tick bites, it ingests the afoxolaner, which interferes with the parasite's central nervous system by blocking GABA-gated chloride channels. This leads to hyperexcitation and rapid death of the parasite.
- Formulation: A soft, beef-flavored chewable designed for high palatability to ensure easy oral administration.
