How do I know if I need a prescription?

Accepted Answer

Products that require a prescription are clearly identified in two ways:
 • A 💊 icon displayed next to the product name
 • A “Prescription Required” notice shown on the product page
 • A “Prescription Item” ribbon displayed on the product image
If you see either of these, a valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian practicing in Canada is required to purchase the item.

How to Submit Your Prescription?

For prescription medications, we require a valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian practicing in Canada.

How to Submit Your Prescription 
You or your vet can send the prescription to us in one of the following ways:
 • Email: Your vet can email it directly to pets@beampharmacy.ca
 • Fax: Your vet can fax it directly to 289-293-2108
 • Mail: You may also mail the original prescription to:

 • Drop-Off: In-person drop-off is welcome at the above address.

*Due to regulations, we can't accept pictures or photocopies of your medication prescription.

Need Us to Contact Your Vet?
We are happy to reach out to your veterinarian to request the prescription on your behalf. Simply let us know during checkout.

Please note: This is only suitable for medications your vet has already approved. Your vet may require an examination before authorizing new treatments or changing current therapies.

 • We cannot ship prescription medications until we have received valid authorization.
 • We do not accept prescription labels or invoices as valid prescriptions.

What if I don’t send the prescription?

If a prescription is required and we do not receive it within a reasonable timeframe, the order cannot be fulfilled. In such cases, the order may be cancelled and refunded.
If you need more time or help contacting your veterinarian, please reach out to us and we’ll be happy to assist.

Question 4

Is there a dispensing fee for prescription medications?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a $5.99 dispensing fee is charged per prescription medication. This fee helps cover the pharmacist’s professional services. It does not apply to non-prescription products.

What if I can’t find an item I’m looking for?

Accepted Answer

Please contact us directly. Some items may not be displayed online due to policy restrictions, and certain products are available only as compounded medications. Our team will be happy to assist you in sourcing what you need.

Do you accept returns or exchanges on prescription medications?

Accepted Answer

No, we do not accept returns on prescription medications due to health and safety regulations.

However, if you receive the wrong item or your order arrives damaged, we’ll gladly provide a replacement or refund on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at pets@beampharmacy.ca or call 289-293-1668 for assistance.

Is BEAM Pets a licensed pharmacy?

Yes, BEAM Pets is operated by BEAM Pharmacy, a licensed community pharmacy in Ontario, with accreditation number 310327. The medications we dispense are reviewed and prepared by Ontario‑licensed pharmacists.

Do you accept prescriptions from out-of-country veterinarians?

Accepted Answer

We can only accept prescriptions issued by licensed Canadian veterinarians. Unfortunately, prescriptions from out-of-country veterinarians (including the U.S. and other countries) cannot be filled due to Canadian regulatory requirements.

Do you ship prescription medications outside of Canada?

Accepted Answer

No. We do not ship prescription medications outside of Canada. For regulatory and safety reasons, prescription medications can only be dispensed and shipped within Canada.

Question 10

Can I place an order before my vet sends the prescription?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can place an order before your veterinarian sends the prescription. We recommend doing so, as it allows us to link the prescription to your order as soon as we receive it and helps speed up processing.
At checkout, you’ll be able to indicate how the prescription will be submitted and provide your pet’s name. Once your veterinarian sends the prescription, our pharmacy team will match it to your order and proceed accordingly.

Does my veterinarian have to provide me with a prescription?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In Ontario, once a veterinarian has determined that a medication is appropriate for your pet, you may choose to have the medication dispensed by the veterinary clinic or request a written prescription to be filled at a pharmacy of your choice.

Under Regulation 1093, section 26 made under the Ontario Veterinarians Act, if a client requests a prescription, the veterinarian is obligated to provide it. The prescription may be issued in writing or communicated directly to a licensed Ontario pharmacist. Veterinarians are permitted to charge a reasonable fee for providing a written prescription. Once a prescription is issued, it is the client’s decision where to have it filled.
