Vanectyl-P Main Uses
Vanectyl‑P is a prescription veterinary tablet for dogs used to relieve itchiness and inflammation associated with skin disorders such as allergic dermatitis, dry or moist eczema, otitis externa, and certain pruritic fungal or bacterial skin infections as part of a broader treatment plan.
It combines an antihistamine (trimeprazine) with a corticosteroid (prednisolone) to reduce pruritus and inflammation.
 
Vanectyl-P Active Ingredients
Each tablet contains trimeprazine tartrate 5 mg and prednisolone 2 mg; the product is marketed in Canada for dogs under DIN 00170925 by Zoetis Canada Inc.
Trimeprazine is an antihistamine that helps block histamine-mediated itch pathways, reducing pruritus and cough reflex sensitivity, while prednisolone is a glucocorticoid that suppresses inflammatory cytokines and immune cell activity to decrease erythema, edema, and irritation in the skin and ear canal.
 
Vanectyl-P Dosage & Administration
Administer orally per body weight twice daily for 4 days, then reduce to once daily until asymptomatic: 1/2 tablet up to 5 kg, 1 tablet from 5–10 kg, 2 tablets from 10–20 kg, 3 tablets for over 20 kg.
Continuous medication with this drug for more than 10 days is not recommended unless supervised by a veterinarian.
 
Vanectyl-P Safety & Side Effects
Common: sleepiness or restlessness; increased thirst, urination, and appetite; panting; mild stomach upset (vomiting/diarrhea), muscle weakness.
Less common/serious: infection signs, hair loss, weight gain/loss, pot-bellied appearance, weakness or muscle tremors, behavior changes (e.g., aggression). Contact a veterinarian if these occur.
