Galliprant Main Uses

  • Used for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.
  • Prescribed for clinical signs of osteoarthritis such as limping, difficulty rising, slowing down, or struggles with stairs and jumping.
  • Not a cure for OA, but beneficial for symptom management

 

Galliprant Active Ingredients

  • Grapiprant (classified as a piprant).
  • Grapiprant is a "piprant" class nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID); it is a selective prostaglandin EP4 receptor antagonist, which blocks a key pain and inflammation pathway in OA.
  • Does not inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, reducing risk of certain side effects (e.g. impacts on the GI tract, blood, kidney, and liver)

 

Galliprant Dosage & Administration

  • Prescription only; consult a veterinarian for individual dosing.
  • Typically administered once-daily chewable tablet. It works best on an empty stomach, but giving with a small amount of food may help prevent stomach upset.
  • Dosage is based on body weight:
    • Galliprant Dosage Chart (2 mg/kg Once Daily)
    • 20 mg Tablet Dosing:
      • Dogs weighing 3.6 - 6.8 kg: Give 0.5 tablet
      • Dogs weighing 6.9 - 13.6 kg: Give 1 tablet
    • 60 mg Tablet Dosing:
      • Dogs weighing 13.7 - 20.4 kg: Give 0.5 tablet
      • Dogs weighing 20.5 - 34 kg: Give 1 tablet
    • 100 mg Tablet Dosing:
      • Dogs weighing 34.1 - 68 kg: Give 1 tablet
      • Dogs weighing 68.1 - 100 kg: Give 2 tablets
  • Only approved for dogs over 8 lbs (3.6kg) and older than 9 months.
  • Missed doses: Follow veterinary instructions; do not double-up doses

 

Galliprant Side Effects & Safety

  • Side effects: vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, lethargy.
  • Contraindications/Precautions: Not for use in dogs allergic to grapiprant. Safety in breeding, pregnant/lactating dogs has not been establisted. Use in caution in dogs with cardiovascular or GI disease.
  • Do not give with any other prescription or over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications
