Revolution Main Uses
- Broad-Spectrum Parasite Prevention: A monthly topical solution used to protect young pets from multiple internal and external parasites simultaneously.
- Flea Control: Kills adult fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one full month.
- Heartworm Prevention: Prevents heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis.
- Ear Mite Treatment: Effectively treats and controls ear mite (Otodectes cynotis) infestations.
- Intestinal Worms (Cats): Treats and controls roundworms (Toxocara cati) and hookworms (Ancylostoma tubaeforme) in kittens.
- Mange & Ticks (Dogs): Specifically in puppies, it treats sarcoptic mange and aids in the control of American dog ticks (Dermacentor variabilis).
Revolution Active Ingredients
- Selamectin (60 mg/mL): A semi-synthetic compound of the avermectin class. The 0.25 mL tube for puppies/kittens contains 15 mg of selamectin.
- Mechanism of Action: Selamectin is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and then redistributed back to the skin and intestinal tract. It works by interfering with the chloride channel neurotransmission in parasites, leading to neuromuscular paralysis and death.
- Systemic Distribution: It provides protection both externally (on the skin) and internally (within the blood and gut).
Revolution Dosage & Administration
- Recommended Dosage: The standard minimum dose is 6 mg/kg (2.7 mg/lb) of body weight.
- Target Weight: For puppies and kittens weighing up to 2.5 kg (5 lbs).
- Administration:
- Press the cap down to puncture the seal, then remove the cap.
- Part the hair at the base of the neck (in front of the shoulder blades) until skin is visible.
- Squeeze the entire contents of the 15 mg tube directly onto the skin in one spot.
