Milbemax Main Uses

  • Prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis.
  • Treatment and Control of Intestinal Worms :
    • Roundworms (Toxocara species)
    • Hookworms (Ancylostoma species)
    • Tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia species, and Echinococcus species)

 

Milbemax Active Ingredients

  • Milbemycin Oxime: A broad-spectrum antiparasitic (macrocyclic lactone class).
  • Praziquantel: An acylated pyrazino-isoquinoline derivative.

 

Milbemax Dosage & Administration

  • The minimum recommended dose for cats is:
    • Milbemycin Oxime: 2 mg/kg of body weight.
    • Praziquantel: 5 mg/kg of body weight.
  • Kittens: Must be at least 6 weeks of age and weigh at least 0.5 kg (1.1 lb).
  • For cats weighing more than 8 kg, an appropriate combination of tablets is administered.
  • Administration: The tablets should be given orally, either placed directly in the mouth (on the back of the tongue) or hidden in food. The cat must be observed to ensure the entire dose is swallowed.
  • Heartworm Prevention: Administer once per month (monthly on the same day), starting within one month of the first indication of mosquito activity and continuing until at least one month after the end of the mosquito season.
  • Intestinal Worms (Non-heartworm endemic areas):
    • Cats: Typically treated 4 times per year (every 3 months) or as directed by a veterinarian.
    • Kittens: Recommended at 6, 8, 10, and 12 weeks of age, then monthly up to 6 months.
  • Adjustments by weight, age, or health condition:
    • Dosing is strictly based on the pet's body weight to meet the minimum recommended mg/kg rate.
    • The product is not recommended for severely debilitated animals or individuals with seriously compromised kidney or liver function, or only according to a veterinary benefit/risk assessment.

 

Milbemax Side Effects & Safety

  • Rare Side Effects: Hypersensitivity reactions, systemic signs (such as lethargy), neurological signs (such as muscle tremors and ataxia), and/or gastrointestinal signs (such as emesis, diarrhea, anorexia).
  • Do not use in cases of known hypersensitivity or allergy to the active substances (Milbemycin Oxime, Praziquantel) or any excipients.
  • Do not use in heartworm-positive animals (those with a concurrent infestation of Dirofilaria immitis). Adulticidal therapy is required before administering Milbemax in these cases
  • Not to be used in kittens less than 6 weeks of age/less than 0.5 kg.
  • The product is safe for monthly, seasonal, or quarterly use as part of a continuous parasite prevention program, provided the dosing schedule is adhered to and a veterinarian has confirmed the appropriate treatment plan.
