Sulcrate Suspension Plus Active Ingredients
Sucralfate (1 g / 5 mL): A complex salt composed of aluminum hydroxide and sulfated sucrose.
Mechanism of Action: Sucralfate acts locally within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract rather than being absorbed systemically. In the acidic environment of the stomach, it forms a viscous, paste-like protective barrier that binds to damaged tissue such as ulcers. This barrier helps protect the affected area from further irritation caused by stomach acid, pepsin, and bile salts.
 
Sulcrate Suspension Plus Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage: While dosages vary by severity, common veterinary ranges are: 250 mg to 1,000 mg per animal (not weight-based) given orally about every 8 hours. Lower doses are generally used for cats and small dogs, while higher doses may be used for larger dogs. Dosing intervals may vary from every 6 to 12 hours depending on veterinary direction.
Empty Stomach Requirement: For maximum efficacy, it must be given on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
Timing with Other Meds: Sucralfate can bind to other drugs and prevent their absorption. Administer other oral medications at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after giving Sulcrate.
Preparation: Always shake the suspension well before each use to ensure the active ingredient is evenly distributed.
