Panacur Granule Main Uses
- Deworming: Indicated for the treatment and control of several internal parasites, including roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina), hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala), whipworms (Trichuris vulpis), and certain tapeworms (Taenia pisiformis).
Panacur Granule Active Ingredients
- Active Ingredient: Fenbendazole (222 mg per 1 gram of granules).
- Role & Mechanism: Acts as an anthelmintic (dewormer) belonging to the benzimidazole class. It interferes with the parasite's ability to absorb glucose, effectively starving the worm. It is "ovicidal," meaning it can also kill the eggs of nematodes, helping to break the re-infection cycle in the environment.
- Pharmacokinetics: Fenbendazole is only partially absorbed in the gut, which allows the medication to remain in high concentrations within the gastrointestinal tract where the parasites reside.
Panacur Granule Dosage & Administration
- Standard Dosage (Dogs): The typical therapeutic dose is 50 mg/kg (22.7 mg/lb) of body weight administered daily for three consecutive days. Consult with your veterinarian concerning the diagnosis and treatment of parasites.
- Sachet Sizes: Available in pre-measured "singles" for convenience:
- 1.0 g sachet: Treats 4.5 kg (10 lbs) for the 3-day course.
- 1.8 g sachet: Treats 8.2 kg (18 lbs) for the 3-day course.
- 4.5 g sachet: Treats 20.4 kg (45 lbs) for the 3-day course.
- Administration Timing: Must be given with food to significantly increase bioavailability and ensure the drug is effectively absorbed.
- Method: Sprinkle the granules onto a small amount of the pet’s usual food. Dry food may be moistened to ensure the granules adhere and are fully consumed.
Panacur Granule Side Effects & Safety
- Common Side Effects: Fenbendazole is generally well tolerated in dogs and cats when used at recommended dosages. Possible Side Effects (Uncommon): Excessive salivation, vomiting, or diarrhea. These effects are usually mild and transient.
