IsaDerm Gel Main Uses
- Treatment of Surface Pyoderma: Specifically indicated for the topical treatment of localized, mild, or moderate surface skin infections in dogs.
- Acute Moist Dermatitis ("Hot Spots"): Highly effective at treating the rapid-onset, itchy, and oozing sores common in dogs.
- Intertrigo (Skin Fold Dermatitis): Used to treat infections and inflammation occurring within skin folds (common in breeds like Bulldogs or Pugs).
- Symptomatic Relief: Provides rapid reduction in redness, swelling, and the intense itching (pruritus) that leads to self-trauma.
IsaDerm Gel Active Ingredients
- Fusidic Acid (5 mg/g): A potent antibiotic that interferes with bacterial protein synthesis. It is highly effective against Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, the primary bacteria involved in canine skin infections.
- Betamethasone Valerate (1 mg/g): A potent corticosteroid that provides anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritic (anti-itch) properties.
IsaDerm Gel Dosage & Administration
- Preparation: The hair covering and surrounding the lesion should be gently clipped, and the area should be cleaned with an antiseptic wash and dried before application.
- Recommended Dosage: Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice daily.
- Duration of Use: Treatment should continue for 5 to 7 days. If there is no response to treatment within 3 days or if the condition deteriorates, then the diagnosis should be re-evaluated.
IsaDerm Gel Side Effects & Safety
- Common Side Effects: Local skin thinning (atrophy) or delayed wound healing if used excessively or for longer than recommended.
- Systemic Absorption: While topical, betamethasone can be absorbed into the bloodstream. Prolonged use or treatment of large areas (more than 10% of the body) may cause temporary suppression of adrenal function.
- Safety Warnings:
- Licking: Prevent the pet from licking the treated area (use an Elizabethan collar if necessary).
- Eye Contact: Avoid contact with the petโs eyes; if contact occurs, flush thoroughly with water.
- Contraindications: Do not use in dogs with deep pyoderma, fungal infections, and in the presence of corneal ulceration.
- Pregnancy: Contraindicated for use in pregnant or breeding bitches, as corticosteroids may induce premature labor or birth defects.
