AlphaTrak3 Main Uses
Quantitative Glucose Measurement: Intended for the measurement of glucose (sugar) in whole blood samples from cats and dogs (also validated for horses).
Diabetes Management: Primarily used to monitor and track blood glucose levels in diabetic pets to help veterinarians and owners assess the effectiveness of insulin therapy and diet.
 
AlphaTrak3 Technology
Technology: The system uses Coulometric electrochemical sensor technology.
Test Strips: These strips contain chemicals that react with the glucose in the blood sample to produce a small electrical current, which the meter then converts into a glucose concentration reading.
Species-Specific Calibration: The meter features specific settings for cats and dogs. This is essential because animal red blood cells contain different amounts of glucose than human cells
 
AlphaTrak3 Administration
Sample Size: Requires an extremely small blood sample of only 0.3 µL (roughly the size of a pinhead).
Testing Frequency: As directed by a veterinarian. Frequency often increases when changing insulin doses or when a pet is showing signs of illness.
Procedure:
Insert a test strip to turn the meter on.
Select the correct species icon (Dog or Cat).
Obtain a blood drop from a capillary site (e.g., marginal ear vein, paw pad, or inner lip).
Touch the edge of the test strip to the blood drop until the meter beeps.
App Integration: The AlphaTrak 3 features Bluetooth connectivity, allowing results to be automatically sent to a mobile app for easy tracking and sharing with a veterinarian.
 
AlphaTrak3 Safety
Accuracy Warnings:
Severe Dehydration/Hypotension: May lead to falsely low results.
Strip Incompatibility: Must use AlphaTrak 3 specific strips; using older AlphaTrak 2 strips will result in inaccurate readings.
Testing Range: The meter reads between 1.1 and 41.7 mmol/L (20–750 mg/dL). Readings outside this range will display as "LO" or "HI" and require immediate veterinary attention.
Safety Precautions: Lancets should be used only once and disposed of in a sharps container to prevent infection or injury.
