ProLiv Main Uses
Liver Function Support: Specifically formulated as a nutritional supplement to support and maintain hepatic (liver) health in dogs and cats.
Detoxification and Regeneration: Helps protect the liver from oxidative stress and aids in the regeneration of liver cells.
Clinical Use: Commonly used in pets diagnosed with liver disease, those with elevated liver enzymes, or pets taking long-term medications that are metabolized by the liver (e.g., certain anti-inflammatories or anti-seizure drugs).
 
ProLiv Active Ingredients
Active Ingredients: S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), Silybin (from Milk Thistle), and Phosphatidylcholine.
SAMe: A bioactive form of methionine that the body converts into glutathione. It is essential for cellular repair and detoxification.
Silybin: The most active component of milk thistle, it acts as an antioxidant and prevents toxins from binding to liver cell membranes.
Phosphatidylcholine: Enhances the absorption of silybin and supports the structural integrity of liver cell membranes.
Synergistic Action: Together, these ingredients work to stabilize cell membranes, neutralize free radicals, and improve the liver's metabolic efficiency.
 
ProLiv Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage:
Small Breed/Cats (up to 15.5kg): 1 tablet daily or 1 tablet twice daily.
Medium Breed (6-29.5kg): 1 tablet daily.
Large Breed (over 30kg): 2 - 3 tablet daily.
Administration Timing: For optimal absorption, tablets should be given on an empty stomach, at least one hour before feeding. SAMe is highly sensitive to the presence of food, which significantly decreases its absorption.
Instructions: Tablets should not be split or crumbled, as they are enteric-coated to protect the SAMe from stomach acid. For difficult pets, a tablet may be disguised in a very small amount of food.
 
ProLiv Side Effects & Safety
Common Side Effects: Generally very well-tolerated. Rare side effects may include mild gastrointestinal upset, such as nausea or vomiting, especially if given on an empty stomach to a sensitive pet.
Safety Warnings:
If vomiting occurs, consult a veterinarian; future doses may need to be given with a small bite of food.
Use with caution in pregnant or lactating animals, as safety in these groups has not been specifically studied.
Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place. SAMe is sensitive to moisture and heat; do not remove tablets from the blister pack until the time of administration.
