Baytril Main Uses
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections in dogs, including skin and soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections, and respiratory tract infections.
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections in cats, including skin and soft tissue infections.
Use should be based on veterinary diagnosis and susceptibility considerations whenever appropriate.
 
Baytril Active Ingredients
Enrofloxacin: A broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic available in 15 mg, 50 mg, and 150 mg tablets. Available as flavored tablets.
Mechanism of Action: Enrofloxacin is a bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, repair, and transcription. By blocking these enzymes, enrofloxacin prevents bacteria from replicating and causes cell death.
 
Baytril Dosage & Administration
Administer exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian.
Dose and duration of treatment will vary depending on the type and severity of infection, the animal's weight, and clinical response.
Administer with or without food; however, giving with a small meal may reduce the chance of mild gastrointestinal upset.
If a dose is missed, give it as soon as remembered; if it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue the regular schedule. Do not administer two doses at once.
Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your veterinarian.
 
Baytril Safety & Side Effects
The most commonly reported side effects include vomiting, decreased appetite, and other mild gastrointestinal disturbances.
Use with caution in animals with known or suspected central nervous system (CNS) disorders, as fluoroquinolones may increase the risk of seizures in susceptible patients.
Fluoroquinolones have been associated with cartilage abnormalities in growing animals. Use in young, rapidly growing dogs should follow veterinary guidance.
In cats, doses exceeding recommended levels have been associated with retinal toxicity, which may result in vision impairment or blindness.
Do not administer concurrently with products containing magnesium, aluminum, calcium, iron, or other mineral supplements without veterinary guidance, as absorption may be reduced.
Safe use in pregnant or breeding cats has not been established.
